Submarining is, and always has been, a very dangerous profession.  Not only are there other militaries out there looking for submarines, often with hostile intent, but a million things can go wrong at any time. Sometimes, we know exactly what sank a boat.  Sometimes, they just never came back.

My original intention was to compile a list of Submarines that are on “Eternal Patrol”. The more I researched the issue, the more I became aware of others that have already done this. The following is a link to an excellent Memorial Site that was originally posted on SubNet:
